Sad Day but turned out okay

Our goat got into the grain on Sunday and had as much as she wanted. She ate it all day until we found her in the evening and secured the lid. She was so sick on Monday with throwing up and diarrhea. If goats eat too much grain it can kill them. They get really bloated. She seemed to get a little better on Tuesday and then started acting weird on Wednesday. She had all the signs of going into labor but it was a month early. We didn't know if she was going to live and the only goat vet in Utah couldn't come until the next morning. She ended up having the babies last night, one boy and one girl. They only lived a few minutes. We are so sad : ( This was a dumb accident and could've been prevented. I know... bring on the guilt trip. Pepper (our goat) is doing better and we are relieved that she made it through this. She is so sad though and doesn't know what happened to the babies. She's been crying all day and looking for her babies. I called a friend, who raises goats, to see if she had any babies that Pepper could adopt. I just can't stand that pitiful cry any more. My friend brought over two babies about 30 min. ago. We held Pepper and let them nurse. The babies would be happy to have her as a mother but she isn't cooperating. We're letting them have time to see if she will give them a chance. As I look out the window, the babies are sleeping a couple feet away from Pepper. Hopefully, that is a good sign. The babies are cute and they love sucking on the kid's fingers.

Update on June 1st:
Pepper never excepted the babies as her own. We are going to keep the female for a companion but the billy is going home today. He's so cute but Pepper doesn't give enough milk for both. We'll bottle feed the female for another 6 weeks and then we'll start making cheese and stuff out of the milk. I want to name the baby Princess. She's very sweet and pretty.

This little male goat will suck on anything to find food.

Here's Savy with her new friends.

Tanner is holding the female goat.

Brady is feeding the Billy.

Homeschool Prom

On Friday night they had the home school prom. These dances are no date so they're a lot of fun and the teens get to meet a bunch of people. They give each person a dance card and encourage them to dance with many people. I love these dances because everyone says yes and every gets plenty of opportunity to dance. Matthew had a blast. I'll post the pictures when I get them. They had a professional photographer and Matthew's whole group of friends piled in and got their pictures taken. Savannah will get to go next year. I think I'll take her to get her hair done and take all the friends out to eat before the prom next year.

In two weeks, we will go to the home school convention. All the teens 12 and up get to go to classes all day and meet new friends. The parents get to go to classes at the same time and learn new ideas for their home school. They also have a huge curriculum fair (which is really nice and gives us the opportunity to see what's out there). We love the convention and look forward to it all year. I love to home school and will really miss it when the kids grow up.

Update - Here are the pictures I promised.

Here they played a game where the girls took off their shoes. The boys picked a pair of shoes and had to dance with the owner. Here is Matthew trying to find the owner of the shoes he picked.

He found her!

They had a limbo contest. Matthew made it to the second to the last round. A very small, petite girl was the only one to make it through the last round.

Here is Matthew's group of friends! Many couldn't make it to the prom
but a lot of them were there.

Here they are doing the bunny hop!

The dance in full swing : )

The girls having fun!

The boys thinking about their next move or wondering if the girls have lost their minds. Actually, the boys just joined right into the fun!

Yes, Patrick and I were there. I can't stand having pictures of me taken while pregnant. Oh well, I guess I need to have a few.

Soccer!

I'm trying to catch up so here is the last one that I'm going to do today ; )

Savannah finished up her soccer a couple weeks ago and I wanted to post some fun pictures. She got a really cool goal this game. They didn't win many games but.... hey... it was fun.

The team.

Savannah is an awesome kicker. She can kick that ball clear down the field.

Get the ball Savy!

Savy, you're awesome!! Great job!

Bike Riding and Other

So Tanner comes in (about 6 days ago) and says, "Mom, I'm going out to ride my bike." Now this child (before this) didn't want anything to do with a two wheeled bike. I tried everything last year but nothing worked. When I forced him to practice riding he would give me so much TROUBLE and I finally gave up. When the weather got nice this year, I mentioned that he should learn to ride a bike and he said, "I'm never going to ride that bike, no matter what you say!" So when he came in I was shocked but went right out, gave him one push and he hasn't been off the bike since. Little Stinker!!

My favorite form of exercise is bike riding so we've been going down the street (to a private park) and riding bikes for about 30 min. to an hour everyday. It's getting harder as my belly grows but I can still do it and hope to do it until I have the baby : ) My leg feels more irritable as I get bigger and have more blood pumping through my veins but over all I've had a very healthy pregnancy. I haven't warn my compression stockings for about 3 weeks. It's too hot!! I'll be going to a blood clot specialist in a couple weeks and then we'll make the decision about how this birth will go. I really want it to be as natural as possible but we'll see.

We are almost ready for the baby to come. We've had to start over because I got rid of all our baby stuff. I only have a few more things to get. We have a whole bunch of camping trips planned this summer so I wanted to prepare early.

Matthew has started taking two summer college classes. He wants to get two years under his belt before he turns 18. He is doing well but is very busy. Because the classes are all crammed into seven weeks, he always has something due. He is also just about done with Drivers Ed and will be driving soon. YIPPEE! It'll be nice when he can get himself around. I think I've spent several hours a day in the car running him around the last month. It's weird to think I'll have a 16 year old. I still feel young and it's hard to think that two of my kids are teenagers. It won't be long before they're gone. I really have enjoyed my teens. They are so much fun.

Spring Break

For spring break we went to St. George. Our goal was to get away and relax in the sun. It ended up not being really nice weather but from what we heard it was much better then the few feet of snow we got here. We still had a good time. We went swimming at the hotel, shopping at the outlets, to the temple, hiking in rain in snow canyon, and played in the sand dunes. It was raining the day we went to the sand dunes but it stopped and got sunny for the two hours we were there. Even the older kids loved the dunes. Here are some pictures.

Fiddler on the Roof

I haven't posted for a while because we've been so busy with theater and soccer. Savannah had her soccer tournament this week and we've had our dress rehearsals and performances. It's nice to have it all over. Funny thing is, I'll really miss it. But it's time to buckle down and rest a bit until I have the baby. (Yea, right, we'll see)

The performances went great this weekend! I was so excited about how well the kids did. We had some glitches but all in all it was awesome. I was so proud of Savannah and Matthew. Savannah has always been my actress. She has no fear of singing and acting in front of a big audience. This was the first year that Matthew tried out for the main part. He did so well. He sung and acted and it seemed like everyone loved it. We have some great performers in our group.

The teens were so sweet and pitched in and got me some gifts. It's been a lot of work but I can say that it was all worth it. Here are some pictures of the cast that my kids were in.

Go Keystone Home School Theater!! You guys ROCK!!

Savannah singing Sunrise, Sunset.

The boys showing off their muscles!

The bottle dance. At first we didn't use velcro but some of the boys wanted it. It was funny when the bottle went sideways on the hat.

Matchmaker

Perchick brain washing the girls : )

The Mamas! Savannah played Golde.

To Life

Tevye (Matthew) talking to his maker

leaving Anatevka

Do you love me. Savannah patting Matthew tummy when she sings "cooked your meals".

The most awesome cast alive : ) These kids are very close.

This is my friend and me. She was the music director and helped me keep sane (or not) She did some amazing stuff with the kid's singing skills.

Goofing off after the play. They all went to Hogi Yogi and spent some time together celebrating.

I love this picture of Savannah and her friend. This is the daughter of the music director.
